Spotlight on Christina Mahony: Bringing Expertise and Dedication to the Quirindi Care Services Board

Quirindi Care Services (QCS) is delighted to welcome Christina Mahony to its board, a Registered Nurse whose career reflects a steadfast commitment to quality care and excellent customer service. With a rich tapestry of experience across nursing specialties, policy development, and operational management, Christina brings a wealth of skills to QCS, poised to enhance the organization’s mission of supporting residents and the broader community.

A Career Defined by Quality and Compliance

Christina’s journey as a Registered Nurse has spanned several specialty areas, each role sharpening her focus on delivering exceptional care. She recalls her time as a Clinical Nurse in IVF on the Gold Coast, where she was “tasked with writing policy on Surrogacy when first introduced into QLD in 2010.” This early experience in policy development laid the foundation for her expertise in navigating complex healthcare systems.

In 2016, seeking a new challenge, Christina moved to Tasmania and took on the role of Director of Nursing, responsible for licensing and commissioning a purpose-built Day Hospital in Hobart. “This entailed writing all policies and procedures in order to achieve both interim and full accreditation against the NSQHS Standards,” she explains, showcasing her ability to ensure compliance with national benchmarks—a skill she’ll bring to QCS.

Her transition to community care in 2019 saw her serve as Clinical and Operations Manager for Calvary Community Care in Tasmania, “ensuring compliance against the Aged Care Standards.” After returning to the Gold Coast to be near family following the birth of her granddaughter, Christina joined Bluecare, managing Bluecare Kirrahaven, a 75-bed aged care facility. Under her leadership, the facility achieved a milestone: “Achieving 100% compliance at accreditation was very rewarding, most notably because this validated the excellent care being provided to our residents.” This track record in quality and compliance underscores Christina’s readiness to guide QCS toward operational excellence.

It is an honour to make a significant and meaningful impact on the lives of older people, greatly improving their quality of life, ensuring they feel safe and supported, whilst maintaining their dignity and independence.

A Vision for QCS and the Community

Christina’s enthusiasm for her new role is evident. “I am extremely excited to be joining the Board as I hope that it will allow me to contribute in making strategic decisions that will directly contribute to quality care, advocating for residents and making a positive difference in people’s lives,” she says. Her vision aligns seamlessly with QCS’s goals, emphasizing strategic leadership that prioritizes resident well-being.

She sees QCS as a vital force in the region: “I believe that the team at QCS have at their very core, the responsibility to provide quality care to their residents, ensuring a safe and supportive environment, whilst also connecting with the local community and contributing to initiatives that support older and more vulnerable people to maintain their dignity and independence.” Christina’s focus on community connection and resident advocacy will strengthen QCS’s impact.

Her leadership approach is both practical and compassionate. “I think that in this era of new regulations, compliance and an ever-increasing focus on patient centred care, it is an essential requirement to understand and navigate these complexities,” she notes. She describes her personal philosophy succinctly: “My approach is to acknowledge and understand the needs of residents as well as the team, providing strong guidance and relationships, whilst maintaining operational efficiency.”

Being flexible, having a strong vision and developing a strategic approach is essential in improving service delivery and meeting the needs of residents, the team as well as the community.

A Life of Family, Adventure, and Community Ties

Beyond her professional achievements, Christina’s personal story adds depth to her board role. “I grew up in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, spending most of my time on the beach, allowing me to develop a love of the water,” she shares. After marrying, she and her husband moved to the Gold Coast, raising “three wonderful children, all of whom are now enjoying their own families.” There, they nurtured a family tradition: “We developed a love of boating and could always be found on the water at weekends.”

Now retired and settled in Quirindi to be closer to her husband’s family in Murrurundi and Aberdeen, Christina embraces a new chapter. “We have travelled extensively overseas for the last ten years, and have just recently purchased a Motor Home so that we can start seeing this wonderful country in which we live,” she says. This blend of family devotion and adventurous spirit resonates with QCS’s community-focused ethos.

A Valued Addition to QCS

Christina Mahony joins the QCS board with a proven ability to elevate care standards, a strategic mindset honed by years of leadership, and a genuine dedication to improving lives. Her skills in quality assurance, compliance, and operational management, paired with her empathetic and forward-thinking approach, promise to enrich QCS’s strategic direction. As she steps into this role, Christina is poised to advocate for residents, support the team, and foster a stronger, more connected Quirindi community—ensuring that quality care remains at the core of all QCS does.
