Celebrating 50 Years of Compassionate Aged Care in Quirindi

In 2024, Quirindi Care Services (QCS) proudly marks a significant milestone—50 years of dedicated service to the Quirindi community. From its humble beginnings to its modern facilities, QCS has remained a cornerstone of aged care in the region, built on the foundation of compassion, community spirit, and a commitment to quality care.

A Legacy of Community Care

The journey of QCS began in 1974, when a group of passionate locals recognised the need for dedicated aged care services in Quirindi. Spearheaded by Ken Heath, a public meeting of 63 residents led to the formation of the Quirindi Retirement Homes Association (QRHA). Through the generosity and hard work of the community, over $780,000 was raised by 1988, paving the way for essential aged care facilities in the town.

Milestones Over the Years

QCS has continued to expand and evolve to meet the needs of an ageing population, ensuring that residents receive the best possible care in a place they can truly call home.

  • 1979: Completion of Elmswood (14-bed facility)

  • 1982: Construction of The Villas (six independent living units)

  • 1984: Opening of a 36-bed nursing home, expanding residential care options

  • 2009: Launch of Eloura Aged Care Facility (68-bed facility), offering comprehensive aged care services

“The development of these facilities was a true community effort,” says Kim Riley, General Manager of QCS. “We take immense pride in providing not just care, but a true home where residents feel safe, valued, and part of our family.”

Aged Care Today: Excellence in Compassionate Care

Today, QCS continues to uphold its reputation for excellence in aged care, offering:

  • Independent Living Units for seniors seeking autonomy with access to support services

  • Palliative and Respite Care, ensuring comfort and dignity in all stages of life

  • A commitment to four and five-star aged care ratings by meeting and exceeding Australian Government Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission Standards

“While aged care has evolved over the decades, our dedication to compassionate, high-quality care remains at the heart of everything we do,” says Kim Riley. “Our mission is to exceed the needs and expectations of our residents, ensuring they feel truly at home.”

Marking 50 Years with a Community Celebration

To commemorate this incredible milestone, QCS hosted a Garden Party and Art Show on October 25, 2024. The event was a wonderful celebration of community, creativity, and connection, bringing together residents, staff, families, and local supporters. The art show featured stunning works created by residents, with winners announced on the day. It was a special occasion to reflect on five decades of care, growth, and dedication to the people of Quirindi.
