Spotlight on Heather Charters: Enhancing Independent Living at QCS 🏡
At Quirindi Care Services (QCS), Heather Charters has become an integral part of our team, bringing a wealth of experience and a genuine passion for aged care. From managing our Independent Living Units (ILUs) to warmly welcoming visitors at the front desk, Heather’s dedication has significantly improved the way we support our residents.
“The residents who live at the Villas and Gables are independent, however, they can receive Home Care Services to help with housework, take them to appointments, or assist with shopping.”
Heather has been an integral member of the QCS Community, providing a welcoming touch point for residents and their families at our Independent Living Units, The Villas and The Gables.
A Strong Background in Aged Care
Heather’s journey began with managing a retirement estate in Tamworth for over-60s, equipping her with the expertise needed to thrive at QCS. “My responsibilities here are varied,” Heather explains, “but my main focus is supporting residents at the Villas and The Gables. This includes everything from organising maintenance to ensuring smooth transitions for new residents.” In addition to her ILU management role, Heather also assists on reception, helping residents and visitors alike with her friendly and efficient approach.
“Currently, I am working in reception at QCS where I meet and greet residents and visitors alike, answer the phone, and generally resolve any small issues that may arise.”
Building a Community of Care
What Heather enjoys most about her role is the opportunity to connect with residents and their families. “Every day is different and never boring. I love talking to the residents and helping them however I can,” she says. Recently, she shared a touching story about a new resident who relocated from Queensland. “She didn’t know anyone when she arrived, but the other residents welcomed her so warmly. Now, she’s joining in on craft sessions and card games, which is entirely new for her,” Heather recalls.
“A smile or a simple thank you from either the resident or their families because you have helped them in some small way is the best reward.”
Transforming Independent Living at QCS
Heather’s proactive approach has led to a complete overhaul of the ILU processes, making it easier for residents to settle in. “I’m proud of the improvements we’ve made to the paperwork and procedures for our ILUs,” Heather says. This streamlined process has greatly benefited both the residents and staff, ensuring a smoother experience.
Kim Riley, General Manager of QCS, has high praise for Heather’s contributions: “Heather has truly transformed the management of our ILUs. She’s built fantastic relationships with the residents and completely streamlined the tenant process. Heather is such an asset to our team—we’re incredibly grateful to have her here. She provides fearless and frank advice based on her extensive industry knowledge. She is such a brains trust. Not to mention a ton of fun.”
A Supportive Workplace
Heather describes QCS as a wonderful place to work, where staff and residents are made to feel welcome and valued. “The supportive environment here, combined with ongoing training, really benefits everyone,” she notes.
When asked what keeps her motivated, Heather responds, “A smile or a thank you from a resident or their family for helping them in some small way. Those moments are what make my job so rewarding.”
“I have worked for a few companies prior to working for QCS, but I can seriously say that it is an amazing place to work. It doesn’t matter what age or cultural background you have—everyone is made to feel welcome and included.”
Life Beyond QCS
Outside of work, Heather enjoys spending time on her farm, travelling, and being with her family. Her commitment to both her personal and professional life adds a depth of warmth to her role at QCS.
Heather’s efforts have made a lasting impact at QCS, and we are incredibly grateful for her dedication and the positive changes she has brought to our community.
