Resident spotlight: Dawn Ryman - Finding Home and Community at The Gables Quirindi Care Services’ Independent Living Units 🏠

In a quiet corner of The Gables – a set of Independent Living Units under the umbrella of Quirindi Care Services – is a lovely and welcoming abode that resident Dawn Ryman calls home.

In a candid interview, Dawn sheds light on her experience and the practical advantages that come with residing at The Gables, emphasising its role in fostering a sense of community and belonging.

Dawn Ryman loves living at The Gables because it's just so practical. "Living in my ILU has been very beneficial for me," she shares, pointing out the affordability of rent and the well-maintained units designed for comfort and safety. Essential amenities are conveniently close, ensuring residents' convenience and peace of mind.

Following the passing of her husband in July 2018, Dawn made the decision to move to The Gables as part of her downsizing journey. Reflecting on this pivotal moment, she expresses contentment with her choice, stating, "I have never regretted the decision." The transition to The Gables offered not only practicality but also a sense of solace and support during a challenging period in her life.

Being that The Gables also fronts onto the main street in Quirindi, maintaining close connections within the community made for an easier transition for Dawn when choosing to live here.

Despite the tranquillity of The Gables, Dawn remains deeply engaged with the local community. She participates in various volunteer groups, maintaining connections beyond the confines of her home. Within The Gables itself is communal area ‘The Stables’ where Dawn finds companionship and camaraderie through social gatherings such as craft sessions, games of ‘Hoi’ and communal meals and birthday celebrations. These activities serve as opportunities for residents to bond and support one another, creating a tight-knit community within the complex.

At The Stables - a communal gathering area - residents of The Gables come together for a cuppa, birthday celebrations, or a game of cards and to enjoy each other’s company.

Dawn emphasises the importance of this support network, highlighting the mutual care and vigilance that residents extend to one another. "We have such a strong support network here," she notes, underscoring the sense of security and belonging that permeates life at The Gables.

Dawn's story exemplifies the quiet comfort and sense of community that define life at The Gables, making it a cherished home for its residents.

Through her experiences, Dawn illuminates the profound impact of finding not just a place to live, but a community to belong to.
