Yes its 2019 and nothing stands still in our world and Eloura is no exception. We are entering a new area in terms of Legislative Compliance in Aged Care. This year staring July first 2019 we move into new Compliance regarding Aged Care Standards . Up until this time we as an organisation every 3 years are required to apply for reaccreditation. When reaccredited this enables us to continue to operate as an aged care facility. There were four (4) sets of standards that we are required to meet up until then, however from 1st July all Aged Care facilities will be required to meet a new set of Standards of which there are eight (8).

Everyone who works within the organisation has a part to play in ensuring we meet those standards and over the last several weeks the workload has been ramped up a notch or two to ensure we are in a good place when we are reassessed. We are due to be reassessed anytime between now and the 30th June. This will be the last reaccreditation under the four (4) Standards.

Major changes have occurred with regards to our senior staff here at Eloura. Jo Baily who was our GM for several years has moved on focus on her own business and we thank her for the great work and time she spent as GM. Our Director of Nursing resigned in November as did the Clinical manager who also have moved onto other areas that fit within their lifestyle.

These positions are currently being advertised as Facility Manager/ Director of Nursing and Care Manager and will be filled as soon as possible. However, whilst it is critical that we fill these very senior positions we must also ensure that we have the right people with the right values that fit within our organisation’s values. Therefore, whilst we actively recruit we have on board an agency Registered Nurse, Kathrine Parker who is very competent in filling the gap as Facility Manager/ Director of Nursing. Katherine has been with us over the last 3 months and will be with us for a further 3 months until these positions are filled.

We also have had major changes in how we record our daily activities with regards to our residents care and this has been a huge learning curve for all involved to move from paper based recording to a computer based system. However our staff have done an amazing job in ensuring we get this right and work still continues in this critical area.

Most of you know of me in my role as a Board Member, however due to many changes in senior management I have resigned from the Board of Directors to take on the role of Quality & Risk Manager as a temporary employee of Eloura for the next 6 months . This role is a new role and is critical in ensuring that all that we undertake here at Eloura meets with Legislative requirements and or exceeds these requirements.

The Director of Nursing and the Quality and Risk Manager our staff and Board of Directors are intrinsically bound to ensure the quality of life, the safety and wellbeing of our Residents is at all times at the forefront of our operations. This also flows through to all who enter Eloura.

I must not forget our fabulous Volunteers who work tirelessly week in week out to make life so much better in many ways for our residents. Thank you never seems enough for the work and time that give of yourselves. These are our quiet achievers… you do make a difference!

Lastly to all of our readers , residents, members and friends… please be assured that 2019 will see us move into another enhanced area of Compliance in Qualtiy and Risk and I am proud to be able to assist our Community here at Eloura move forward on that journey of continuous improvement .

Till next time… we remember our Values each day – “Respect, Honesty, Trust, Professionalism, Integrity, Empathy.”
